Making Medicine Work For You

STATEMENT OF NEED: Healthcare professionals are experiencing increasing rates of burnout, mental health challenges, and identity-related distress, particularly in high-demand fields like obstetrics and gynecology. There is a need for continuing education that addresses the psychological and emotional toll of clinical work, fosters awareness of achievement motivation styles, and supports strategies for sustainable, balanced professional success. Dr. Staci Tanouye s personal and clinical insights offer an opportunity to explore the intersection of medical practice, self-worth, and mental health in a way that promotes physician well-being and resilience. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Identify the four achievement motivation learner types self-protectors, failure acceptors, optimists, and over strivers and discuss how they influence professional behavior and self-worth. Recognize signs and impacts of physician burnout, postpartum depression, and chronic stress-related conditions in themselves and colleagues. Apply evidence-informed strategies for fostering self-acceptance, reducing overperformance, and promoting sustainable professional well-being in medical practice.
