Starting With Confidence: A Practical Framework for Amyloid-Targeting Therapy in Early Alzheimer s Disease

Amyloid-targeting therapies such as lecanemab and donanemab require careful patient selection and safety monitoring in early symptomatic Alzheimer s disease. In this activity, Alzheimer s specialist Dani Cabral, MD, discusses a practical approach to identifying potential treatment candidates, confirming amyloid pathology, and interpreting amyloid PET, cerebrospinal fluid, and blood-based biomarkers in clinical context. She examines factors associated with amyloid-related imaging abnormality (ARIA) risk, including APOE 4 status, baseline MRI findings, and concomitant medications such as anticoagulants. The activity also highlights agent-specific MRI monitoring, symptom surveillance, and coordinated practice workflows to support ARIA detection and management and informed treatment discussions with patients and care partners.
