Beyond the Scale: Assessing the Quality of Weight Loss and Advancing a Whole-Person Approach to Obesity Care

This live satellite symposium at ObesityWeek 2026 examines how treatment success in obesity can be assessed beyond percentage weight loss, with consideration of obesity-related complications, body composition, physical function, quality of life, durability, and residual disease burden. Faculty will discuss body composition changes associated with GLP-1 based therapies and practical, risk-stratified approaches to evaluating muscle health, including assessment of strength, function, nutrition, and appropriate use of DXA, BIA, or imaging. Emerging strategies designed to preferentially reduce fat mass while preserving lean tissue will also be reviewed. Through an interactive case-based discussion and live polling, participants will examine persistent cardiovascular risk following meaningful weight loss, and how to integrate guideline-recommended lipid-lowering strategies with GLP-1 based obesity treatment.
