Xanthelasma Palpebrarum

Xanthelasma palpebrarum is the most common form of cutaneous xanthoma and presents as yellow, cholesterol-rich papules or plaques on the eyelids that may serve as visible markers of underlying systemic disease. Although benign, the condition is frequently associated with dyslipidemia, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, and, in younger individuals, inherited lipid disorders, making accurate evaluation clinically important. This activity describes the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and evidence-based management of xanthelasma palpebrarum. Participants enhance their ability to recognize characteristic findings; assess patients for associated metabolic abnormalities; select appropriate treatment options, including surgical and nonsurgical approaches; counsel patients regarding recurrence risk; and integrate interprofessional strategies that support comprehensive care and improve patient outcomes.
