Ovarian Function Suppression in the Treatment of Premenopausal Women with Breast Cancer: Highlights from the September 2025 Meeting

Ovarian function suppression (OFS) has become a key component of endocrine therapy for premenopausal women with hormone receptor positive breast cancer, significantly influencing long-term disease outcomes. This CME/CE activity reviews the evolving role of OFS in modern breast cancer management, integrating recommendations from ASCO, NCCN, and ESMO guidelines with long-term data from landmark trials such as SOFT, TEXT, and HOBOE. Faculty will discuss practical considerations, including optimal timing of initiation, duration of therapy, and the clinical implications of monthly versus every-three-month GnRH agonist dosing. The program also addresses challenges such as interpreting estradiol levels, managing treatment-related adverse effects, and balancing efficacy with patient quality of life. Through multidisciplinary perspectives from oncology, cardio-oncology, and survivorship care, participants will learn strategies to personalize OFS therapy, improve adherence, and support holistic, patient-centered care for young women with early-stage breast cancer.
