Pediatric Fever: A Practical Approach for the General Emergency Clinician

This one-hour live webinar covers pediatric fever from birth through age 6, using age-based cases to compare major guidelines and show how a pediatric emergency physician applies them in practice. Topics include urine collection, viral testing, lumbar puncture decisions, and antibiotic selection, with a focus on the well-appearing child. Attendees will leave with a clearer framework for deciding who needs testing, treatment, or admission and who can safely go home. At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to: (1) Apply an age-stratified framework to evaluating febrile pediatric patients, including neonates, infants under 3 months, and older children. (2) Integrate current clinical practice guidelines with history and physical examination findings to select appropriate diagnostic testing and initial management. (3) Identify red-flag features and serious underlying etiologies of prolonged or recurrent fever that warrant expedited workup. (4) Develop an evidence-based disposition plan that includes admission criteria, discharge instructions, and follow-up intervals.
